A Week of Forward

While this wasn’t the most productive week, it was a good week.  A blessed week.  A “gonna step back and smell the roses” week.

Sunday, I spent the day reevaluating the blessing of motherhood. What a GIFT I’ve been given to raise and mold these children.  It was one of those days where I sat back and gave thanks.  I had just returned from Apologia’s Real Refreshment Retreat and my spirit had been refreshed.  (There’s one in Atlanta, March 22-23. I highly recommend you go!)

You know the feeling that tells you you’re doing the right thing, and even though you’re not doing it perfectly, there’s still hope?  That’s me right now.  I have a song of FORWARD on my lips.

Monday, I started looking around and realized my home doesn’t look like I’m thankful for these gifts.  I saw Bram’s schoolbooks on the shelves, gathering dust because they haven’t been touched in weeks.  I saw laundry (still) waiting to be folded and put away.  Bike helmets taunted me from the corner whispering “when was the last time you went out to play WITH the kids??”.

This is normally where I’d crumple and listen to that hard, negative, not-so-little voice in my head.  But I’d had an encouraging weekend, so I wasn’t going to play the “beat myself up” game. Have you ever seen the movie Freedom Writers?  My favorite quote popped into my head.

“You have been blessed with a burden, my daughter.”

I love that movie, I love that line.  Oh to be blessed with the burden of motherhood. It isn’t easy, but the burden is such a blessing. Tweet that! So rather than beat myself up, I simply resolved to move forward.

Tuesday was co-op and the world conspired against me.  I help in nursery, which is usually a rather calm and pleasant experience.  But the time change did a number on the kids and every one of them was wildly emotional and fussy.  Whew, what a morning!  But we all got through it – positive attitudes intact – and had a pleasant afternoon which included grocery shopping.

Wednesday…I wish I could remember Wednesday.  It’s a blur of phone calls, laundry, checking school work, a visit from my father and step-mom who will soon be going on a Carnival cruise (yes, we’ve seen the news) and that’s about all I can think of.

Thursday I spent the morning working on the Titus 2:1 Conference (you’re coming right?) then it was off to civics for the two oldest boys. I managed to throw dinner in the crock pot before we left so we came home to home-cooked yumminess.

Thrilled my eldest now has to drive ME around. Ha!

Today I spent a lot of time evaluating what I want to accomplish this weekend so I can make our day-to-day time easier, better, more connected.  Forward!

How was your week?  Any great plans for the weekend?
